Distinguished Master Artist Series The DMA is a successful new tradition at USF which consists of Master Classes and performances. Our 2003 guest artist Dick Hyman, jazz musician, and 2004 guest artist Dale Warland, choral director, set the stage for this year's master artist Brian Bedford, a renowned Shakespearean actor. Now a University-wide program, the Distinguished Master Artists Series brings celebrated artists age 65 and older in art, music, theatre, and dance to the University of South Florida. Brian Bedford is an excellent model for successful creativity in aging and would like to share his expertise in a Master Class workshop designed for theatre students. Please contact the College of Visual & Performing Arts box office by February 17 in order to reserve space in the Master Class. In addition to the Master Class, Brian Bedford will also perform The Lunatic, the Lover and the Poet on the evening of March 3, 2005. In his one-man show this internationally recognized Shakespearean actor will assume the tragic, comic, and historic guises of some of the Bard's most memorable characters. The Distinguished Master Artists Program, established in 2003, is a cooperative program of the College of Visual & Performing Arts and the School of Aging Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. Kash n’ Karry is again the presenting sponsor. The program brings world-renowned visual and performing artists over the age of 65 to the University of South Florida as an artist in residence to conduct master classes as well as to present public performances. The purpose of this program is to bring examples of mature artists who continue to create and produce meaningful work well into their later years to the Tampa Bay Area. Dale Warland was the second selected artist following 2003 Distinguished Master Artist, Jazz Pianist, Dick Hyman. Brian Bedford is the artist that will lead and master class and perform this year.
